The candidacy phase begins with a simple welcoming ceremony. During this time you live in one of our communities and share in the charism, mission and ministries of the sisters. The sisters will help you in your discernment as you share your life experience, your gifts and your talents in community. This experience, which lasts between six months to two years, will give you an opportunity to experience the life of a Sister of the Blessed Sacrament.
The novitiate begins with a simple ceremony during which you receive the Constitutions of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. The first year novitiate is called the canonical year. It is a time of intense prayer, study and quiet time. The second year novitiate provides the opportunity to live and participate in ministry with the sisters at a local site for an extended period of time.
First Profession takes place during Mass at which time you profess to live the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience according to the constitutions of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for a period of three years. At the completion of three years you may request renewal of your vows for a period of time not to exceed nine years. The time of temporary profession ordinarily lasts five years after which you may request to make your perpetual profession.
“After her profession of consecrated life by perpetual vows, a sister continues to deepen her relationship with the Lord and her appreciation of her call. Guided by the spirit she seeks a growth that brings inner peace and a sense of fulfillment. Her complete consecration embraces her entire being and her whole life.” Total Gift of Self – Constitutions of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament
“The spirit of the Congregation is the spirit of the Eucharist — the total gift of self.”
