Death of Katharine Drexel

In the late 1930s Mother Katharine suffers a heart attack. In 1937 Mother Mercedes is elected superior general. Mother Katharine’s health limits her activities to the Motherhouse. Eventually bed-ridden, Katharine has daily Mass said in her room. On March 3rd, the sisters and the world receive word of her death at 96. Her body is now entombed at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. At her death all income from the Drexel estate ceases.
